Upcycling
Some of the items that you salvage will not be completely to your taste, or will need some form of adaption to give them a new lease of life. This is what is meant by ‘upcycling’ an item. Upcycling can be as simple as painting an item, or as sophisticated as changing its purpose entirely.
The table in the picture, below, has had its legs painted – they were previously bare pine.
Look at this garden planter that I made for free. All of the wood was salvaged from scrap discarded in a skip. Even the screws that I used to make the planter were salvaged. This is a much more extensive example of upcycling!
