Finding
There are several places where items can be found, for you to salvage them. In some parts of the country – especially London it seems – neighbours leave items out for people to take. Sometimes it is obvious that the items have been left out as ‘donations’ – it’s even better if they leave a note stuck to the things saying “free – help yourself!”. If you are unsure if the items are ‘donations’ simply ring their door bell and ask.
On the evening before the bin men come, it is quite common for items to be left out to be thrown out. This is fair game for salvaging. Therefore, take a walk around the evening before the bin men come.
Skips are fertile ground for salvaging. Never walk past a skip without having a quick look. Always ask the skip owner’s permission before taking anything of course 😉
Micro-salvage can be found in similar ways – so even if an item seem beyond repair or upcycling, don’t forget to take any potentially useful bits to help with your future projects.
